Former Manchester United defender, Nemanja Vidic has announced his retirement from professional football after an incredible 16 years.
Vidic recently left Inter Milan following a disappointing 18 month spell in Italy where injuries and loss of former hampered his time there.
However it was at Manchester where Vidic made his name and deservedly so will go down as a legend of the club. Vidic signed for Manchester United on Christmas Day 2005 proving himself in his 8 year spell at the club to be one of Sir Alex Ferguson's best signings.
In his time at the club Vidic won an impressive 5 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League and 3 League Cups. He formed an impressive partnership with Rio Ferdinand that earned them comparisons to Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister two former great defenders at the club at the heart of the United defence. They both formed a solid partnership that was the basis for much of the clubs success during their years together at the club. He featured on the PFA Premier League team of the Year 4 times as well as winning the Sir Matt Busby player of the year at Manchester united in the 2008/09 season.
The highlight of his Old Trafford career will no doubt be the Champions League Final win over Chelsea in Moscow 2008. He would have had more success in the Champions League but for Barcelona and Lionel Messi, losing two finals against them during their impressive run under Pep Guardiola.
After leaving United in 2014 for Inter Milan things unfortunately didn't work out in Italy and after being released last month by the club he has decided at 34, that he will bring the curtain down on an incredible career. He said:
"The time has come for me to hang up my boots," "The injuries I have had in the last few years have taken their toll.
"I would like to thank all the players I have played with, all the managers and staff I have worked with, and say a big 'thank you' to the fans for their support over the years."
Vidic proved himself to be a warrior at Manchester United and will go down as a legend of the club joining the likes of Steve Bruce, Roy Keane and Ryan Giggs earning themselves cult status at the club.
