World Cup Winner Headed For Anfield?

Could Liverpool be about to sign the man the won the World Cup for Germany?

According to widespread reports Mario Gotze is the top transfer priority of former Manager Jurgen Klopp this summer as he aims to re-establish Liverpool as one of England's greatest teams once again.

Gotze shot to prominence under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund and the idea of teaming up once again with the eccentric German seems an appealing prospect to Gotze.

However at just 23 years of age he has yet to firmly establish himself as a first team regular in the German set up, although he did come off the bench in what undoubtedly will be the proudest moment of his young career to win the World Cup for Germany in Brazil 2014.

He looks to be on the move again having not enjoyed the best of times at Bayern Munich since leaving former boss Klopp and Dortmund for their arch rivals in 2013. He has only started 4 times this season under Guardiola and his future at the German Champions looks bleak.  For a player that was once labelled the "next Messi" it has been a remarkable decline and questions have to be asked are Liverpool taking a huge risk in investing in Gotze with the belief Klopp is the man to get the best from him.

His relationship with Pep Guardiola has not been like the one he developed with Klopp, but it remains to be seen if new Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti can persuade Gotze to give it another shot with Munich and start afresh with Ancelotti at the helm as Guardiola packs his bags for Manchester this summer.

After all the turmoil his move to Munich from Dortmund caused, the hate mail, the fans abuse and the traitor chants aimed at him it would seem impossible for Gotze to return to Dortmund.

So if Gotze is to look for pastures new this summer the chance to reunite with Klopp will seem the obvious choice but if Gotze is available with one year left on his contract at Munich and a rumoured asking price of £20 million, expect more than just Liverpool to be interested in who once was called the brightest young talent to emerge from German football in a long time.

His signing will be a gamble but if he can produce the form that saw him burst onto the scene with Dortmund then whichever club signs him, at 23 will have got a bargain.

However teaming up with Klopp once again may be too much for Gotze to turn down.  Klopp described Gotze's move to Bayern as "like a heart attack".  After ruling out a move to Liverpool in January, Gotze may now be ready to mend Klopp's heart and get Liverpool hearts racing at the thought of a World Cup winner with a bright future lining up at Anfield next season as the Klopp revolution gets underway with signings he can call his own.
